Comedian Steve Patterson Will Host Entrepreneur of the Year Dinner

With the Burlington Entrepreneur of the Year Dinner only one week away the Burlington Chamber of Commerce is very excited to announce that Steve Patterson, one of Canada's top comedians and host of CBC's The Debaters, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
"We're very excited to have Steve Patterson MC this event," said Keith Hoey, President of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce. "Mr. Patterson is one of Canada's top comedians and as the host of CBC's radio show The Debaters he will bring a new level of energy to the event. The combination of Steve Patterson's comedy, keynote speaker Joel Cohen's experiences from The Simpsons, and Steve Stipsits’ entrepreneurial story will add up to an amazing evening."
The Entrepreneur of the Year Dinner highlights the long-term accomplishments of one of Burlington's business leaders each year. This year’s winner is Steven Stipsits President of Branthaven Homes. Branthaven Homes is a family-based homebuilder with deep roots in the Burlington community. The company was founded in 1971 by Steve’s father, Al, and Steve has been leading the company full-time for the past twenty-seven years. Shortly after the company was established, it gained a following and a reputation as the most prestigious custom home builder in Burlington. As many may not know, the company was named in honour of Burlington’s founding father, Joseph Brant and the Stipsits’ belief that “A home should always be a haven.”
Steve Stipsits was chosen as the award recipient to recognize his leadership role in building a successful, high-profile company that positively represents Burlington both locally and regionally. He reflects entrepreneurship through his companies and his philanthropic endeavours have given back to the community.
The keynote speaker for the event is Joel Cohen, writer and co-executive producer of The Simpsons. Cohen found success in the corporate world before making a completely illogical career move into comedy writing. The Emmy-winning writer of The Simpsons left a former corporate business role to write what has been named “the greatest TV show of the 20th century.” Cohen’s experience as both a “creative” and a “suit” has not only left him with a puzzling resume, it also gives him a unique perspective to discuss creativity and its place in business. Cohen’s insights are entertaining, highly practical and slightly tinged with a Canadian accent.
The Entrepreneur of the Year Award Dinner is being held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Burlington Convention Centre. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a welcome reception and presentations will begin at 6:30 p.m. The ticket price is $175.00 (+HST) and $1,400.00 (+HST) for a table of 8. Those interested in attending the event can visit the Chamber website or call the Chamber office at 905-639-0174.
